Black Shouldered Kite

The Black-shouldered Kite is a beautiful bird of prey, whether it chooses to live in one place or move around a lot. They usually fly over open grasslands and wide valleys with scattered trees, where the ground cover is easy to get to and makes for great hunting.

This beautiful kite is a specialist predator, which means it has a very specific diet. It can hunt a wide range of creatures that are the right size, such as grasshoppers, rats, small reptiles, birds, and very rarely even rabbits. However, it is a true master at catching small rodents. Over 90% of its diet is made up of mice and other small mammals.
