Sambar Deer

The Sambar Deer is a beautiful but very underrated part of our ecosystems. It lives in the lush landscapes of India. Their thick coats are made up of beautiful, earthy colours that range from light to dark brown. They often have a subtle greyish or yellowish tint that helps them blend in with the wild jungle background.

Sambar are naturally hard to find. They are mostly active at night or in the early morning and late evening, when the moon is shining or the sun is setting. These gentle giants look for shelter during the hottest part of the day, resting peacefully under the thick, protective cover of the heavy forest.

They are dedicated herbivores and expert foragers, which helps keep their habitat in balance. They eat a wide range of native plants, including grasses, leaves, water plants, herbs, and wild berries, as well as the buds, stems, bamboo, and bark of many trees and shrubs
